Ninja Kiwi, the masterminds behind the billion hit wonder Bloons (you probably think we’re exaggerating… sadly we’re not). Bloons has attained quite the legendary status since it’s very first release, and is a common name among flash developers, as well as gamers. If you’re part of the few that haven’t heard of Bloons, let us fill you in!
Yeah. Those red bloons pretty much explode everywhere.
It is a game that evokes emotion, love, sadness, grief…well maybe at times when you’re frustrated at not being able to pop all the balloons. Sounds simple? It’s not! Gameplay consists of throwing darts from a monkey and trying to pop the required amount of Bloons to pass to the next level. Each setup is harder than the last, and there are literally VAST amounts of player produced levels.
And that brings us to our next point, Ninja Kiwi’s ability to franchise this cute game, as well as back it up with ITERATION after ITERATION, and creating even more franchises such as Meeblings, SAS Zombie Assault, and BoomBot.
I feel like Ninja Kiwi is not given enough credit for such a grand feat they had accomplished. Their backstory is filled with success after success. Who would’ve known just how successful they’d be today? And whould’ve known they were offered $350 for the very first Bloons game, as well as the source code for a sponsorship. Ridonkulously funny.
The creators of Ninja Kiwi, are Chris and Stephen. They drew the monkey in five minutes, and created a protytpe of Bloons in two hours. Do you think they might’ve had some slight thought that they were bolstering the frontier for the flash game industry? I remember seeing Bloons back when I was a wee little developer (so probably several years back), the concept was different, enjoyable, fun, and playable. So to me, it wasn’t so surprising that they had branched out into BloonsWorld.com, and MyNinjaKiwi.com.
They hit a very large demographic, since Bloons is a pick-up-and-play type of game. Just take a look at their Alexa ranking for NinjaKiwi.com, it is 5,830, so they must be doing something right! They have landed a huge success and IronZilla applauds them. We wish them the best of their franchise, since they’ve greatly inspired many developers such as myself.
